8V8 Formation

My u11 girls rec team will be playing 8v8 this fall and I was looking for some input in what formation might be best. At 6v6 we ran 2-1-2, we were defensive minded and had trouble scoring goals. We lack speed and only really have 1 true striker.

Pre game

I am looking for a new pre game warmup. I coach a u10 girls rec team. We have a bad habit of starting, very slow. We not only seem slow moving but we are not agressive almost sleep walking first 10 minutes or so.

Sam Marting replied to Tim Horton's discussion What are your soccer coaching resolutions for 2011?
"Can a coach really infuse that passion into his team by himself? I can see in the upper divisions of clubs but even at the lower? I have coached upward for many years, where the emphasis is more on the relationship with Jesus Christ than with the…"

Sam Marting replied to Tim Horton's discussion What are your soccer coaching resolutions for 2011?
"You are correct John, our kids are not watching soccer. If they don't watch they don't emulate what the best are doing. I coach a girls U10 rec team and I am constantly struck at their lack of "feel" for the game. And these are…"

Roby Stahl replied to Sam Marting's discussion Developing strikers in the group The Striker school
"Sam:   Start with the basic striking techniques daily in training to develop their conficence.  Then combine this with the 1 v 1 activites going to goal at top speed.  In training always play them together and up top to develop…"

Developing strikers

I am looking for a better way to develop/train goal scorers. I have a u10 girls rec team that is made up of 2 teams that didn't make challenge. They are primarily defensive position players who have not had much help from their coaches in the past. Our 2 best scorers we developed in fall made challenge for spring and we are back to square one. Any advice or suggestions?

Tell us more about your coaching and/or playing experience?
I have coached upward soccer for 5 seasons, this is my first season in a "true" developmental league. Played 1 season as a 4th grader.
What are your development goals as a coach, player or parent?
Our team is a combination of 2 recreation teams from last year where their best players moved up to challenge. We have 11 girls who were all defensive players past couple seasons. We have 1 new to soccer and 1 new to developmental league play. We struggle with scoring, mainly due to experience but main concern is lack of fitness/speed.
