CANADA YOUTH SOCCER RULE:YOU WIN YOU LOSE

THE FOLLOWING WAS A DISCUSSION OF A NEW RULE IN A CANADIAN YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE.
I BEILIEVE THAT IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING EVERYTHING FAIR, WE FORGET WHAT SPORTS ARE, CONTESTS.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? SHOULD THERE BE PARTCIPATION AWARDS?
SHOULD WE PUNISH SUCCESS?
WHAT DO OU THINK?

GLENN BECK: From Canada, the Canadian youth soccer league is taking heat now after introducing a new rule that says any team that wins a game by more than five points will lose the game by default. The rule intended to foster sportsmanship.
Please note: although no board code and smiley buttons are shown, they are still usable.

Hi Apostoli,
I can understand the mercy rule but to award the win to the loosing time does seem to defeat the purpose of competing. Why not stop counting the goals and what happens if the other team scores an own goal to make it 5-0 and causing the winning team to loose.

In North America we do seem to be pampering our kids a little to much and depriving them of many learning experiences that can be experienced in both winning and losing games.

Cheers
Tim
